DESCRIPTION:
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler performance monitor.
MONITORED PARAMETER:
Intake manifold temperature sensor.
TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS:
1. Engine running greater than 5 minutes.
2. EGR mass flow greater than .08.
3. Intake manifold temperature less than 125°C (257°F).
4. Engine speed 1200-2500 rpm.
5. Engine torque 500-2500 N·m.
6. Coolant temperature greater than 65°C (149°F).
7. Ambient temperature less than 45°C (113°F) ambient.
8. Coolant temperature greater than 65°C (149°F).
9. Ambient temperature greater than -8°C (17.6°F) ambient.
10. Barometric pressure greater than 755 mbar (10.95 psi).
MONITOR SEQUENCE:
None
EXECUTION FREQUENCY:
Always enabled
TYPICAL DURATION:
30
DASH LAMPS:
MIL
VERIFICATION:
1. When ambient temperature less than 45°C (113°F).
2. Start engine.
3. Warm up such that coolant temperature greater than 65°C (149°F).
4. Ensure ambient barometric pressure greater than 755 mbar (10.95 psi).
PROBABLE CAUSES:
1. If there are any cooling system issues, repair those first.
2. Intake manifold air temperature sensor.
3. Intake manifold air temperature sensor connector/harness.
4. EGR system leaks.
5. Remove the EGR hot pipe, EGR crossover tube, and mixer pipe. If blockage found, replace the EGR Cooler.
